  • Becca Baker earned her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2007 under the direction of Bob Pond and Bart Craig.  Currently, she is an HR Manager in Organization Development at JCPenney.  Becca is responsible for the administration of surveys and assessments within the organization, including the annual engagement survey and the 360° assessment program.  She also contributes to the ongoing development and validation of company-wide selection tools.  Prior to joining JCPenney, she worked as a researcher at the National O*NET Center and the Center for Creative Leadership.

  • Tara S. Behrend is an Assistant Professor of I/O Psychology in the Department of Organizational Sciences and Communication at The George Washington University. She received her Ph.D in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2009, under the direction of Dr. Lori Foster Thompson. Dr. Behrend conducts research in the areas of technology-supported training, recruitment, and selection. She is also interested in broad issues surrounding the adoption of new technologies, and is the director of the Workplaces and Virtual Environments research group at GWU. She teaches graduate courses in psychometrics, research methods, and training. She has consulted for a number of public and private organizations in areas such as performance appraisal, job analysis, and training design.

Braddy, Dr. Phillip W.

  • Phillip W. Braddy earned his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology in 2007 under the direction of Dr. Adam Meade and Dr. Joan Michael. Currently, he is a research scientist in the Global Research Group at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL). In this role, Dr. Braddy validates 360 assessments used in CCL’s leadership development programs, provides statistical and psychometric support to delivery and research faculty, conducts research on leadership, and facilitates workshops in which CCL’s clients become certified to use CCL’s 360 assessments. He also currently serves as an adjunct assistant professor at Elon University, where he teaches undergraduate courses in I/O psychology and Leadership. Prior to joining CCL and Elon, Dr. Braddy did consulting work with Kaplan Devries, Inc. and the U.S. Army. He also taught several courses in the Psychology Department at NC State.

Campion, Dr. Michael A.

  • Michael A. Campion, Ph.D., Founder and President of Campion Services, Inc., is a prominent and accomplished Industrial and Organizational Psychologist. After working with IBM and Weyerhaeuser Company for nearly a decade, Dr. Campion accepted a position as a Professor of Human Resource Management at Purdue University in 1986. He has since published over 65 articles and given more than 130 presentations on a range of Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development and Human Resource Management topics. In addition to his industry and research experience, Dr. Campion has consulted with more than 50 organizations on over 180 projects. This career experience has given Dr. Campion a deep understanding of both the practical and scientific aspects of managing people in organizations, which enables him to understand and appreciate the needs of our client organizations. Dr. Campion is the past President of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and a former editor of Personnel Psychology (a journal of applied research).

  • April R. Cantwell currently leads the Talent Measurement Consulting group at pan (Performance Assessment Network ) where she offers client support on job analyses, competency modeling, assessment selection, validation studies, results interpretation, and other consulting services for pan’s clients.  She provides strategic direction for the consulting group, speaks often at events related to assessment or selection, builds new consulting services for pan to offer, and trains sales team members in assessment, selection and employee development topics.  She has designed and now manages a new project aimed at developing a self-service job analysis tool that links worker competencies directly to the 300+ assessments in the pan catalog.  April is an executive educator for NC State’s Executive Education program.  She has designed and now delivers a C-level course on the implementation of strategy, the culture of innovation, and change management.  She worked for several years as an occupational consultant to and project manager for the National Center for O*NET Development project and as an independent organizational and management consultant.  April earned her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2010 under the direction of Dr. Samuel B. Pond, III.

  • Lycia Carter earned her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2004, under the direction of Mark Wilson. Currently, Lycia is the Director of Testing and Standards for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D. C., where she is responsible for the selection, promotion and performance management processes for sworn members through the rank of Captain. As the only I/O in the Department, Lycia also provides internal consulting services in the areas of job analysis and training. Lycia has worked in law enforcement since 1999, prior to which she worked for a human resources consulting firm specializing in assessment and selection. Lycia also earned her M.S. in I/O Psychology from NC State, under the direction of J. W. Cunningham in 1989.

  • Erich C. Dierdorff is Assistant Professor of Management in the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University in Chicago. In 2002, he received his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational and Vocational Psychology from North Carolina State University under the tutelage of Mark Wilson. His current research interests include issues of quality in job and work analysis, enhancing training program effectiveness, strategic performance management, multidimensional models of job performance, organizational citizenship behavior, person-situation interactionism in organization behavior, and the application of structural equations modeling in behavioral science. Erich has conducted extensive research and consulting projects in both the private and public sectors. In private industry, he has worked with Nortel Networks and Siemens Systems on projects such as training program design, organizational surveying, and employee retention. In the public sector, he has worked with t! he U.S. Department of Labor on their Occupational Information Network (O*NET®) project, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation aiding in the design and validation of their personnel selection system, and the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) on projects focused on the reliability of oral proficiency ratings from the Oral Proficiency Interview as well as several studies of training effectiveness.

Fleenor, Dr. John W.

  • John is currently a research director at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) in Greensboro, NC, where he is responsible for research on the development and use of 360-degree feedback instruments. Since joining the Center in 1991, John has worked as manager of the assessment database, research scientist, and group director. He is a co-author of four books, several book chapters, and numerous journal articles on 360-degree feedback and related topics. His publications have appeared in journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Leadership Quarterly. John was co-author of an article that was selected as the best paper of 1998 by the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management. He is a recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Reviewer Award from the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements, and he is listed in the 2000 Who's Who in the Management Sciences. John serves on the editorial boards of Human Resource Management and the Journal of Business and Psychology, and is the former book review editor for Personnel Psychology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and the Academy of Management. John's PhD is in industrial/organizational psychology from North Carolina State University, where he currently serves an adjunct associate professor of psychology.

  • Reanna is a Senior Consultant at SWA Consulting Inc. where she works on projects related to training evaluation, database design, work analysis, training needs assessment, and test validation. She received her Ph.D.  in Industrial and Organizational Psychology in 2008, under the direction of Dr. Lori Foster Thompson. Dr. Harman has conducted research examining survey comment response behavior, the measurement properties of personality, and contextual predictors of job performance. She has presented at several conferences and has published in Organizational Research Methods. Dr. Harman has taught undergraduate classes at North Carolina State University as the lead instructor and was a Preparing the Professoriate fellow.

  • Lisa D. Grant Harpe, Ph.D., is an industrial psychologist and senior consultant for the Peopleclick Research Institute (Institute), Peopleclick Inc.’s affirmative action research and compliance consulting arm. In this role, Dr. Harpe assists companies in the evaluation of their employment practices as they relate to discrimination. This includes statistical and qualitative analysis of hiring, performance appraisal, compensation and promotion practices, as well as coordination with attorneys and employers involved in discrimination litigation or Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program (OFCCP) audits. She brings 10 years of expertise in industrial psychology and occupational analysis to the Institute. Dr. Harpe joined Peopleclick from PRI Associates, a consulting firm acquired by Peopleclick in September 2001. Prior to that, she was the first industrial psychologist for the North Carolina Highway Patrol in which she implemented, managed and evaluated promot! ion and performance appraisal systems for the organizations 1,200 officers and validated a new hiring system for Troopers. Dr. Harpe holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wake Forest University and a master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degree in psychology from North Carolina State University.

  • Emily Johnson earned her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2009 under the direction of Adam Meade. She is currently a consultant at Federal Management Partners, Inc., working on various projects designed to improve employee and organizational effectiveness in federal agencies. Her clients include the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Energy, and the National Parks Service. Prior to joining FMP, she conducted research concerning issues of measurement and job performance and worked on consulting projects for various local and state government organizations.

  • Penny Koommoo-Welch received her Ph.D. in 2008 under the direction of Dr. Bart Craig, and her M.S. in 2005 under the direction of Dr. Mark Wilson. Penny is currently the Organizational Research Consultant at GSK, with responsibilities that include data and analytics initiatives (including performance and evaluation metrics), survey development and analysis (including responsibility for the organization-wide global employee opinion survey), focused research to help guide GSK's strategic agenda and goals (including those centered around improving employee engagement and empowerment), as well as research projects for the company’s CEO and his senior executive team. Prior to her current position, Penny was a research intern at GSK, as well as a graduate teaching assistant at NC State, teaching research methods and statistics.

  • Kelley J. Krokos earned her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2003 under the direction of Mark Wilson. Kelley’s expertise and interests focus on defining, measuring, and improving individual and team job performance in high risk jobs. As a Principal Research Scientist at the American Institutes for Research (AIR), she works on a variety of projects. She recently completed a strategic job analysis for air traffic controllers, a training development and evaluation project for a voluntary employee error reporting program, and a web-based job analysis information management system (i.e., database). She is currently working on a strategic training needs analysis and is helping to evaluate the usability of new digital web applications that are replacing outdated analog systems. Prior to joining AIR, Kelley worked with the NC Department of Correction, the US Coast Guard’s Research and Development Center, Nortel, and the NC State Highway Patrol. She is a member of APA, HPEE, and SIOP.

  • Christina Kroustalis earned her PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology in 2009 under the direction of Dr. Adam Meade. Currently, she is a research consultant at the National Center for O*NET Development, the nation’s primary source of occupational information. Christina’s responsibilities include providing consultation to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)/Employment and Training Administration (ETA) about new and emerging occupational data, data sampling activities, occupational tools and technology, and how green economic activities and technologies influence occupational requirements. Prior to joining the National Center for O*NET Development, she worked on numerous consulting projects in the public and private sector and taught Psychology courses at North Carolina State University.

  • Jonathan Levine is President & Founder of Workforce Dynamics, a Tampa, Florida-based human resources consulting firm and Co-Owner of Veterans Job Search, LLC, a web site that provides tools and services that assist veterans and military transitioners in finding civilian jobs. He possesses specialized expertise in areas such as job/occupational analysis and classification, online testing and assessment, skills gap analysis, and various government programs, particularly the Occupational Information Network (O*NET). Much of Jonathan's time has been occupied in the online career world, having worked with many organizations including Monster.com, SkillsNET Corporation, Salary Expert.com, and Careerbuilder. Prior to Workforce Dynamics, Jonathan worked as the first and only I-O psychologist for Monster.com and before that as a Project Manager for the U.S. Department of Labor/National O*NET Center.   • Jenn L. McGinnis is a Consultant at SWA Consulting Inc. in Raleigh.  She received her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology in 2010, under the direction of Dr. S. Bart Craig.  Dr. McGinnis conducts research in the areas of adolescent and executive leadership development, executive integrity, the “dark side” of leadership, and the relation between personality and leadership effectiveness.  She is also interested the use of mixed-methods and qualitative research in I/O Psychology.  Dr. McGinnis teaches undergraduate courses in leadership studies, recruitment and selection, and organization development. Prior to joining Peace College, she served as a research assistant on a National Science Foundation project examining the leadership of industry/university cooperative research center directors and worked for Kaplan DeVries, Inc. in their research and development function.  From 2008-2011, Dr. McGinnis was an Assistant Professor of Human Resources and Leadership Studies at Peace College in Raleigh.

  • Torrey Mullen earned her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2007 under the direction of Dr. Bob Pond and Dr. Bart Craig. Torrey is currently a senior consultant in the Organization and Human Capital Strategy team at Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, DC. Torrey is responsible for assessing and responding to the human capital needs of the federal government, specifically the intelligence community. Her work includes survey research and design for the US Coast Guard, the National Reconnaissance Office, and the Interagency Security Committee in addition to various projects under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Prior to joining Booz Allen, Torrey was a research consultant with the National Center for O*NET Development and owner of Trademark Consulting, LLC.

  • Stephanie Sloan is currently a Consultant with Hay Group, Inc. working in the Leadership & Talent practice within the Atlanta office.  In this role, Dr. Sloan consults with internal HR, management, and executives on the design, development, implementation and execution of large-scale leadership development, onboarding, and talent management programs for field and corporate leaders.  Additionally, she partners with executive clients to establish tailored, best-in-class, and multifaceted leadership development programs and processes targeted to achieve long-term business strategies.  Stephanie also consults with cross-functional HR partners to align leadership development solutions with broader HR systems.  Prior to joining Hay Group, Dr. Sloan worked internally as a Leadership Development Consultant for The Home Depot.  She was responsible for consulting and collaborating on the design and roll-out of the largest leadership development program in the retail industry serving over 28,000 retail leaders.  She also served as the primary lead in designing, developing, and executing new leader onboarding programs for managers and executives in the corporate office.  Stephanie has six years of experience teaching undergraduate Psychology courses at North Carolina State University and Lanier Technical College.  In 2007, she received her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational and Vocational Psychology from North Carolina State University under the tutelage of Dr. Bart Craig and Dr. Bert Westbrook. Dr. Sloan is a member of the Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychologists, American Psychological Association, Society of Consulting Psychologists, and the American Society of Training and Development.  She has been involved in a number of conference presentations on career maturity, leadership development, leader onboarding, and career pathing.

  • Eric A. Surface, Ph.D., is the president and lead researcher at SWA Consulting Inc (formerly Surface, Ward, & Associates). SWA Consulting Inc is an organizational consulting and personnel research firm based in Raleigh, NC. SWA applies the principles, research, and methods of industrial/organizational (I/O) psychology to assist organizations and their employees in enhancing their performance, solving work-related problems, and addressing workplace issues.  SWA has worked with a diverse group of clients from IBM to the United States Special Operations Command. SWA was initially founded in 1997 by Eric and fellow NCSU alumnus, Dr. Stephen J. Ward, while they were still in graduate school.

    SWA Consulting Inc is committed to supporting graduate education and research in I/O and employs a number of graduate students to work on applied research projects. SWA supports the development and dissemination of knowledge by providing access to real world data for conference papers and manuscripts. SWA has sponsored SIOP grants for the past two years.

    Dr. Surface’s primary consulting interests relate to performance and proficiency, training effectiveness, work-related foreign language, and organizational effectiveness and development. Eric is currently leading several projects related to second language learning, proficiency measurement, and training effectiveness in civilian and military contexts. His research interests include training effectiveness (broadly defined), the interaction of context and individual differences to influence performance and other behavior, and survey methodology.

    Eric earned his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University and was a Consortium Research Fellow and Post Doctoral Research Fellow with the Army Research Institute.  Eric has presented numerous conference papers/posters. He has co-authored articles in several journals, including one in Personnel Psychology, Organizational Research Methods, Human Performance, Military Psychology, and Foreign Language Annals. He has served as a reviewer for several conferences and journals and is a member APA, SIOP, NCIOP, ASTD, ACTFL, and AOM.

Thompson, Dr. Jat

  • Jat Thompson, Ph.D. is the Founder and President of Horizon Performance, LLC. an organizational psychology and software consulting firm in Cary, NC. Horizon Performance utilizes proprietary software to deliver outcome focused, evidence based solutions for personnel selection, training, and employee development issues. Horizon Performance clients include the Department of Defense, Army Special Forces, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, and NASA. Jat received his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from North Carolina State University in 2004 under the guidance of Dr. Mark Wilson. While a student at NCSU, Jat worked with the Army Research Institute as an applied psychologist. His work included the development of a peer assessment program for the Special Warfare Center, adaptability training for SF officers, Command Climate survey administration for the Joint Special Operations Command, and development and administration of 360 leadership assessments for the United States Army Special Operations Command. His current areas of focus are in leadership development and performance assessment. Specifically, the development of performance assessment tools, the design of new training exercises, and evaluation of performance during selection and training programs.

Watson, Dr. Aaron

  • Aaron is a research consultant for SWA Consulting Inc. where he works on projects related to training evaluation and effectiveness, training needs assessment, and test validation. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2010, under the direction of Dr. Lori Foster Thompson. His dissertation was a longitudinal study modeling cognitive and motivational influences on the acquisition of foreign language proficiency in Special Operations Forces training. His research interests include training evaluation and effectiveness research, performance measurement and modeling, psychological measurement, organizational research methodology, and the impact of technology in the workplace. Dr. Watson has conducted research on the role of technology in training and performance assessment, computer-based and videogame-based training, and motivation in learning contexts. He has served as lead analyst on several test validation projects on rater-based assessments.

  • Kari Yoshimura received her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2010 under the direction of Frank Smith. She is currently a Leadership Research Consultant in the Center for Learning and Development at IBM. In this role, she assists the organization with competency research and modeling, 360-degree survey design and research, executive selection protocol design and validation, and executive and high-potential employee development. She also consults with internal clients on their leadership development initiatives. Prior to her current position, she was the global program manager of a technical leadership program, a research associate for a corporate technical learning group, and a teaching assistant at NC State.

  • Nichole Ayers earned her M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2010 under the direction of Dr. Joan J. Michael.  Currently, she works for Deloitte Tax LLP where she manages a team of individuals and services in India that support the goals of the Washington National Tax (WNT) practice and the Tax Knowledge Services (TKS) team. The TKS group within U.S. Deloitte Tax is a team of client service professionals who develop and manage tools and processes to leverage the intellectual capital of the U.S. Tax Practice.  She is responsible for managing the WNT India team members which includes recruiting professionals, goal setting, performance reviews and career development.
