MS Reqs and IO Electives

MS Req indicates a distributional psychology course.
The department requires 9 hours of distributional courses, split across Groups A and B.
The IO program requirement Psy 764 counts towards Group B.
Therefore, two additional distributional courses are required for the MS, at least one of which must be from Group A.

Group A: Group B:
PSY 500 - Visual Perception PSY 511 - Advanced Social Psy
PSY 508 - Cognitive Processes PSY 584 - Advanced Developmental Psy
PSY 502-  Physiological Psy PSY 591 - History & Systems
PSY 744 - Human Information Processing Psy 764 - Survey of I/O Psy

For an full explanation of the distributional courses see page 20 of:
http://www4.ncsu.edu/~mershon/FDF/Documents/Grad_Handbook_2005.pdf

Two IO Elective courses are required for the Ph.D. degree. For details, see the Requirements Page.

Free Electives may consist of graded, graduate-level courses of your choosing from inside or outside the Department of Psychology. “Graded” courses refer to those evaluated on an A, B, C, etc. scale.

* Due to a retirement, the Department of Psychology is not currently offering Psy 714 (Small Groups) on a regular basis. This requirement is therefore suspended indefinitely, until a Psy 714 instructor is identified. In the meantime, students, in consultation with their advisor, should select a Free Elective to take the place of Psy 714 on their plan of work.

**If they wish, students may register for 3 hours of Psy 890 during the semester in which they take their doctoral preliminary exams. It should be noted that these hours do not count toward the minimum credit hours needed to fulfill a Ph.D. Plan of Work in psychology at NC State.
